About Valerie

Valerie Aflalo is the founder and designer behind the brand Valerie. With roots in both Sweden and France, she has managed to create a collection where the interplay between a minimialist Scandinavian look and a Southern European affection for detail adds up to perfect harmony.

Valerie was brought up in a truly entrepreneurial environment. Her father introduced brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren and Kenzo to the Scandinavian market and her interest in the field of design quite naturally started to grow early. Already at an age of 10 she was presented to the influential European couture houses and were invited to her first fashion shows.

Valerie started her career as a model at the age of 16 and she has since then been engaged in modelling jobs all around Europe. In 2000, she was crowned Miss Sweden in the Miss Sweden Contest.

Working as a model nourished her dream to become a designer and at the end of 2002 Valerie contacted designer Renato Nucci for a trainee position. Her initiative was positively received and she spent a year working for this highly respected designer in Paris. In the couture house, founded in the 1970's, Valerie got her education and started to develop her own characteristic design.

Back in Sweden, Valerie started working for Gents Wear Group as brand manager while simultaneously studying at the Malmö School of Design. During this period the idea of introducing her own brand grew stronger and in 2005 she created her first collection. Since then her enterprise has shown steady growth. Today Valerie's clothes are represented at more than 40 opinion leaders.

Valerie's collections embody modern femininity and natural elegance. Valerie is the given choice for a dynamic woman who is confident enough to affirm her femininity and refuses to give in to dull everyday. Valerie's clothes are intelligent and easy to wear, sometimes sexy but never provocative. Plain-coloured garments decorated with sequins, ribbons and laces are mixed with patterned silk. The materials used include silk chiffon, silk satin, silk dupion, silk duchesse, cotton and wool. Dresses and skirts form the base of the collection.
